PAT METHENY TRIO
With 18 Grammy Awards, a record for a jazz musician, and around 20 million albums sold, Pat Metheny is by far the greatest star of the Belgrade Jazz Festival since its rebirth in 2005. This guitarist of numerous interests (from post bop, via fusion and Latin jazz, to the avant-garde) played with musicians of various milieus - from Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, Gary Burton, Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland, Chick Corea, Charlie Haden and Brad Mehldau to David Bowie. He developed an authentic style and an instantly recognizable sound, thus becoming an idol to the new generations of guitarists. Early this year, he added another award to his impressive collection given by the readers of Down Beat magazine for Best Album (“Orchestrion”) and Best Guitarist of 2010. At the 27th Belgrade Jazz Festival, he will be performing in a trio with two prominent contemporary jazz musicians of the middle generation – Larry Grenadier on double bass and Bill Stewart on drums.
